On August 28 the Administration of the President of Ukraine hosted a press conference on the occasion of the first international race for war veterans in Ukraine within the 9th Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon.
This year the 9th Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon for the first time will include an absolutely new course of 10 km “Pride of the Nation: Veteran’s Ten” for veterans of the war, families of the victims, volunteers, civil activists and veterans from other countries.
“It is an honor for us to join in organization of this race within the marathon, since this is not just another course, this is a special race for special people. It is for the people who defend our country and us, you and me. I really want these races to become a tradition not only for the Kyiv marathon, but also for our regional events. I invite everyone to come to Maidan Nezalezhnosti on October 7 and support the participants of the “Pride of the Nation: Veteran’s Ten”, as they really need it” – says Dmytro Chernitskyi, the General Manager of the Run Ukraine.
This is a social initiative that aims to draw attention of the society to the problems of veterans as well as demonstrate the importance of sport in their lives. The whole country will see that Ukrainian community of veterans can be a unified, strong and willful team that is able to overcome any obstacles.
“We are very grateful to everyone involved in organization of this race as it is very important to the military servicemen who undergo rehabilitation, because it helps them rediscover faith in themselves, their strength, lets them feel themselves a part of a team and something very important” – said Vadym Svyrydenko, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on rehabilitation of ATO participants.
The race is open to participation of various groups and platoons of the Ukrainian army, veterans of combat, former ATO fighters, volunteers, active military men, as well as invited troops from 7 countries of the world: USA, the Great Britain, Canada, Lithuania, Denmark, Georgia, Poland.

The 9th Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon is one of the main largest running events in Ukraine. In 2010 it became the leader of restoration of running culture in our country, and it remains the biggest running event in Ukraine to this day.
